How to Lose Weight Fast Safely

Working on weight loss? Then you probably want results -- fast.
Let me save you some time: skip the fad diets. Their results don't last. And you have healthier options you can start on -- today!

You can safely lose 3 or more pounds a week at home with a healthy diet and lots of exercise, says weight loss counselor Katherine Tallmadge, RD.

How to Lose Weight Fast

If you burn 500 more calories than you eat every day for a week, you should lose about 1-2 pounds.
If you want to lose weight faster, you'll need to eat less and exercise more.
For instance, if you take in 1,050 to 1,200 calories a day, and exercise for one hour per day, you could lose 3-5 pounds in the first week, or more if you weigh more than 250 pounds. It's very important not to cut calories any further -- that's dangerous.
Limiting salt and starches may also mean losing more weight at first -- but that's mostly fluids, not fat.
"When you reduce sodium and cut starches, you reduce fluids and fluid retention, which can result in up to 5 pounds of fluid loss when you get started," says Michael Dansinger, MD, of NBC's The Biggest Loser show.

Diets for Fast Weight Loss

Dansinger recommends eating a diet that minimizes starches, added sugars, and animal fat from meat and dairy foods. For rapid weight loss, he recommends focusing  on fruits, veggies, egg whites, soy products, skinless poultry breasts, fish, shellfish, nonfat dairy foods, and 95% lean meat.
Here are more tips from Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, author of The Flexitarian Diet :
  • Eat vegetables to help you feel full.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Get tempting foods out of your home.
  • Stay busy -- you don't want to eat just because you're bored.
  • Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table. No grazing in front of the 'fridge.
  • Don't skip meals.
Keeping a food journal -- writing down everything you eat -- can also help you stay on track.
"Even if you write it down on a napkin and end up throwing it away, the act of writing it down is about being accountable to yourself and is a very effective tool for weight loss," says Bonnie Taub Dix, MA, RD, author of Read It Before You Eat It .
Besides jotting down what you ate, and when, you might also want to note how you were feeling right before you ate it. Were you angry, sad, or bored? We often focus so much on foods and calories, but our emotions are a huge part of our eating habits.
If you see a persistent pattern in your emotional eating, please consider talking to a counselor about it. They can be a big help in finding other ways to handle your feelings.

Exercising for Fast Weight Loss

It's time to move more! Losing weight requires close to an hour a day of moderate exercise, one study shows.

Plan to do cardio and strength training.
"Cardio burns the most calories, so it is ideal for fast weight loss, but afterward you need to include a few hours a week of strength training," Dansinger says. To burn the most fat, try to break a sweat after your warm-up and keep sweating for the entire hour, Dansinger says.
If you're not exercising now, and you have a chronic condition or a lot of weight to lose, it's wise to check in with your health care provider first. They'll be rooting for you! And they'll make sure that you're ready to work out.
Pace yourself. Don't do too much, too soon -- work your way up to help prevent injury.
One way to step up the intensity is to do interval training -- brief bursts of high-intensity, followed by a more mellow pace, and repeating that pattern throughout your workout.

"Interval training allows people to work harder without having to spend the entire time at the higher level, and over time, the more you do it, the easier it becomes to burn more calories," Blatner says.

Fad Diets and Crash Diets

I know how tempting diet crazes can sound, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. You hear about stars who did it and look incredible.
But remember,  if a diet plan sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Also, please skip any programs that promote detoxification pills, laxatives, fasting, or potions, and any that promise weight loss faster than 2-3 pounds per week.
The truth is that cutting calories below 1,050-1,200 per day is counterproductive, because you need strong muscles to be able to exercise effectively.

"When you eat too few calories, you lose fat but also precious muscle, which is the worst thing you could do because it slows your metabolism and makes it more difficult to increase exercise intensity or duration," Dansinger says.

Fad diets also set you up for failure by depriving you of what you want. You can't eat like that for long, and it's too likely that you'll rebel and end up back where you started. You deserve better than that!
So by all means, attack your weight loss goal. Put it on the fast track. But please, do it right so you set yourself up for lasting success.

Siberoni Recalls 169,655 Pounds of '"Pelmeni" For No Inspection

An Oregon food manufacturer on Monday recalled 169,655 pounds of Eastern European-style frozen meat and poultry ravioli products known as “pelmeni.” Portland-based Siberoni said the “pelmeni” was produced without being inspected by USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) as required by federal law. The products recalled are:
  • 1 lb. packages, in 40-pound cases, of “Siberoni” brand Chicken Pelmeni
  • 1 lb. packages, in 40-pound cases, of “Siberoni” brand Beef Pelmeni
  • 1 lb. packages, in 40-pound cases, of “Siberoni” brand Beef and Pork Pelmeni
The packages bear the establishment number “33788” or “P-33788” inside a USDA mark of inspection or elsewhere on the package. The products were produced prior to Sept. 6, 2013, and were sold directly from the firm’s storefront and via a distributor to retail outlets in Oregon and Washington state.

While visiting a distributor, an FSIS investigator found product that appeared to have been produced while under suspension. Upon further investigator, it was determined the product was made before the suspension but without the benefit of inspection.
No reports of illness have been associated with the recalled products.

News: The Hindu See realtime coverag 44 killed, 90 injured in blast in Peshawar

Third blast to hit the area in a week; car bomb parked in market area

http://www.thehindu.com/multimedia/dynamic/01601/Peshawar-blast_1601043f.jpg

For the third time in a week, Peshawar was brought to its knees, this time by a powerful 220-kg bomb in a car parked near a police station in the historic Qissa Khwani bazar, which killed 44 persons and injured over 90 on Sunday.
According to Shiraz Paracha, the spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister, the explosive was fitted into a Toyota Corolla and parked outside Khan Raziq police station at the entrance of the bazar. Ironically, the police station was named after an officer killed in a terrorist attack. Over 30 shops were destroyed. “We are under tremendous pressure after the consecutive blasts and the government is formulating a strategy to counter these incidents,” he said.
Just as the shops were opening at around 11 am, the bomb detonated leaving those who were there shocked. It triggered another cylinder explosion in a nearby car, according to the police. The market was engulfed in a thick black cloud of smoke as cars and shops caught fire while panic spread.
For the third time this week, Lady Reading hospital was confronted with an emergency situation. The government maintains that there is enough space and medical personnel available for treatment.
The casualty department has 40 beds and is trying to cope with the fresh influx of the wounded.
Police said the entire white Toyota car was fashioned into a bomb and a crater was formed at the site of the blast. Fire-fighters had to climb into the shops lining the road to douse the fires.
This incident comes after Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan suggested that the Taliban should be allowed to open an office in the country for talks for which he has been roundly criticised. PTI heads the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government which is now under fire for its lack of security.
Mr. Khan, in a quick statement on Sunday, strongly condemned the Peshawar blast and assured the nation, especially the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, that culprits will be punished.
The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) too has condemned the blast as also other top leaders. Party secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said such acts of cowardice threatened the ongoing peace process, adding that the government was determined to exterminate all facets of terrorism.
Last Sunday, two suicide bombers had attacked a church in Peshawar, not far from this bazaar, killing over 80 and on Friday a bomb went off in a bus carrying government employees, killing 19of them and injuring over 40.
Qissa Khwani bazar is known for a massacre of the Khudai Khidmatgars, by British in 1930. They were gunned down during a non-violent protest.
It is famous even now as a market of story tellers. It is said that caravans on a long journey used it as a resting spot. .
It is also the birth place of Mohammed Yusuf Khan better known as Dilip Kumar.

Way To Make Coffee Perfect

Coffee's been around for centuries, and the art of its brewing has been continuously refined ...

1 - Cold Brew Coffee :

How To Get The Perfect Coffee
Amateur-hour iced coffee usually consists of a standard brew poured over ice, the result being a bitter and watered down version that can barely be called coffee. It's a slight improvement when coffee is chilled and then served over ice -- at least in that case, not as much ice immediately melts to dilute the coffee -- but your pick-me-up deserves better.

Enter the cold brew. Rather than a standard process of soaking grounds in hot water for a few minutes, cold brew is steeped in cold or room temperature water overnight. Since the grounds are never exposed to intense heat, the resulting coffee is smoother, sweeter and less acidic than its hastily made counterpart. It's also considerably stronger than a standard hot brew. A proper cold brew is a concentrate rather than a drink meant to be consumed as is. The addition of ice and cold milk to a small amount of the stuff dilutes it perfectly to a normal strength.

Best of all, it's amazingly easy to make. Just follow these steps for cold-brew enlightenment:
•    Soak one part coffee grounds to four parts of water (or adjust according to your tastes). Stir and refrigerate 8-12 hours.

•    Use a coarse grind of a light roast in a French press. Since the water is resting directly with the coffee rather than being dripped through, a finely ground blend is more difficult to properly strain. And even if you enjoy a darker roast, a cold-brewed version will simply taste burnt, so make sure to use a lighter roast than you usually drink. We prefer ours as is, but you can add flavour by including lavender, mint or any other add-in.
•    Strain thoroughly.
•    If using a French press, this part is easy: just strain normally by pushing the grounds to the bottom. If you don’t have one, just double strain the grounds from whatever container you used through a coffee filter or cheesecloth.
•     Pour over ice, milk and any add-ins of choice
•    Keep in mind that sugar doesn't dissolve in cold liquids as easily as it does in hot ones, so it's easier (but not necessary) to use a simple or flavoured syrup if you want it sweeter. Bonus points for gourmet add-ins like maple syrup, almond milk and a splash of bourbon (though probably not for your morning cup).

The 6 Meals That You Will Love to eat

1- Tacos de Tripa :

Amazing Meals
Location: Guadalajara, Mexico

Given how abysmal Mexican food is in London, I always thought that it was a cuisine made up of remains from the back of the fridge. However, the tastes and textures of my first Taco de Tripa, sampled in Guadalajara changed all that forever. Crunchy deep-fried pig strip, fiery hot salsa and a dripping of lime juice
is an almost unbeatable combination for any palate. I urge you to try one, you can thank me later.

2- Gourmet Filipino Meal :

Amazing Meals
 Location: Angeles, Philippines

We all have pre-conceived notions about certain cuisines, and until I dined with polymath Claude Tayag in 2007, I was convinced that Filipino consisted of little more than pork, deep frying and deep fried pork. This writer, artist and gourmand produced a series of dishes at his home in the Pampanga region of the country that managed to transform my opinion of Filipino food from dismissive to huge respect.

3-Chicken Tikka Masala:

Amazing Meals
 Location: Glasgow, Scotland

There are not many times that a person can say they have eaten a world-famous dish prepared by the person who created it. In 2009, while researching my second book, Eating For Britain, I met with Ali Ahmed Aslam at his restaurant, The Shish Mahal in Glasgow. There he prepared for me a dish of Chicken Tikka Masala, to which he has strong claims to be the inventor. It was as delicious as I imagined and one of my most memorable dining experiences.

3-Peter Luger :

Amazing Meals
Location: New York, New York

I thought I had eaten steak before, but I was wrong. My first bite taken from a slab of medium rare porterhouse at Peter Luger, the world’s most famous steakhouse, in 1992 made me realize what I had been missing.

4 -Railway Journey :

Amazing Meals
 Location: Marrakech, Morocco

Great meals are not just about good food - they are also about context, and a simple meal shared on a train ride from Marrakech to Fez in Morocco was the perfect example, as my carriage companions insisted that I share their meal of roast chicken, dried fruits, cheese, and flat breads. As a stranger in a strange land, the hospitality was very welcome and made me determined to be the same to all I met from that day.

5 -Jamon Iberico :

Amazing Meals
Location: Extremadura, Spain

If you have not eaten Jamon Iberico from Spain then you have not eaten. It is, to my mind, the finest food product on Earth, and in 2009 I was lucky enough to be invited to meet one of the greatest producers of this delicacy in the Extremadura region of Western Spain. Tasting slivers of the incredible acorn-flavored ham with its silky ribbon of fat at the source of its production remains one of my greatest ever eating experiences.

6 -Fish & Chips :

Amazing Meals
Location: Rotherham, England

Everybody has a meal they think of when they are homesick, and for me it is traditional British fish and chips. And nowhere is this meal prepared better than in my hometown of Rotherham in Yorkshire. Big slabs of flaky haddock, in a beautifully crisp batter with finger-thick chips to help soak up all the vinegar which tradition decrees you should douse over your meal.

Number 10

Peck deck

Whether you're new to bodybuilding or you haven't worked out in a while, the peck deck is a great place to start. Just have a seat, adjust the weight stack, get into position, contract your chest muscles as you press the pads together, and go back to the starting position. This machine works your inner pectoral muscles.

Number 9

Cable press

Adjust two pulleys to shoulder height and adjust the weight stacks. Stand at the midway point between them, with your feet shoulder-width apart and one foot in front of the other. With your elbows raised to your sides, grip one pulley in each hand and, keeping your palms facing down and your arms at shoulder height, press the handles forward, making sure to avoid locking your elbows at the end of the motion. Then bring them back to the starting position. This exercise works the upper chest.

Number 8

Cable flyes

Standing between two pulleys adjusted to shoulder height, grip the pulleys with your palms facing forward and, keeping a slight bend in your elbows, bring your palms together in front of you, contracting your chest muscles as you go, and return to the starting position. This works your upper chest.

Number 7

Pushups

Get into pushup position, with your weight evenly distributed between your toes and your hands -- and your legs, hips and back in a straight line -- and lower and raise your body by bending your elbows, making sure that your arm angle is 90° at the bottom of the movement. If you want a greater challenge, try doing decline pushups with your feet raised on a bench or a stability ball, which places greater strain on your chest muscles. Or try diamond pushups, with your hands together.

Number 6

Chest dips

Hold yourself up on a dip bar and, making sure to keep your head down and your legs straight beneath you, lower yourself by bending your elbows, and come back up to the starting position. Make sure to keep the movement in your chest and not in your triceps, as you are working the former. Check out the top five ways to get great pecs...

Number 5

Cable crossovers

Standing between two pulleys -- adjusted to slightly above shoulder height -- grip the pulleys, with palms facing forward and elbows slightly bent. Contract your chest muscles, bringing your arms down below your chest and back to the starting position.

Number 4

Dumbbell flyes

With your back against a horizontal bench, take one dumbbell in each hand, and extend your arms straight ahead of you with your palms facing each other. Making sure not to lock your elbows, open your arms, and bring them back to the starting position. This works both your inner and upper chest.

Number 3

Dumbbell press

Lie down on a flat bench, take one dumbbell in each hand, bend your elbows so that your hands are by your shoulders with your palms facing your feet, and use your chest muscles to press the weights up and back down. For variety, you can try these with a slight incline in the bench, which places more emphasis on your upper chest, or on a decline, which places more emphasis on your lower chest.

Number 2

Flat flyes

Lying on a flat bench, take one dumbbell in each hand and bend your elbows so that your hands are by your shoulders with your palms facing in. Extend your arms straight up and lower the weights by your sides, keeping a slight bend in your elbows, and go back to the starting position. This works both your inner and upper chest. Number 1

Bench press

Lie down on a flat bench -- making sure not to arch your back -- and grip the barbell with your hands shoulder-width apart, palms facing your feet, and press the barbell straight up and back down. If you do this on an incline, you will place more emphasis on your upper chest, whereas a decline places more emphasis on your lower chest.

nice chest

If you want a great chest by summertime, my advice to you would be to pick four of these exercises -- making sure that you work all parts of your chest -- and do 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps of each once or twice per week, for 4 to 6 weeks, and then repeat this process with four different exercises. Until next time, happy lifting.
